Grand Prix Final 2016 - Emotion on Ice (Dance Final)

Comebacks haven't quite risen to expectations in the past two seasons, but Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir's return is unlike any other. After breaking the world record in the short programme, they're looking more likely than ever to win the gold. On second, the Shibutani siblings have just finished ahead of World champions Papadakis and Cizeron for the first time in their career. Can they hold onto the silver medal?

Madison Chock/Evan Bates probably didn't expect to start the final as 6th place holders. They skate to Queen's Under Pressure, keeping the rock style they showed in the short. Their free is not smooth either, but they make no errors per se, just little moments of hesitation in lifts and such. Their score: 108.45. Overall: 179.32.

Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev have some original twizzle positions, but their lifts are not at all impressive when compared to the difficulty level of the others. Also, they didn't manage to get into the right position for the rotational lift. They get 107.91 points. Overall: 181.95.

Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donohue have one of the most beautiful routines of the season. Unfortunately, Madison loses control of the second set of twizzles. The music is by Ingrid Michaelson and Bootstrap. Their score: 107.12. Overall: 179.59.

Maia and Alex Shibutani during their Evolution routine
Gabriella Papadakis/Guillaume Cizeron skate to Stillness and Odduadua. They're both great actors, portraying so much emotion in this routine. Love how they can make complicated lifts seem really simple. They get 114.95 points. Overall: 192.81.

Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani's routine is growing on me. They have some difficult entries into lifts, fast twizzles and complex dance sequences. That being said, the programme does not convey the same emotion as that of the French. Their score: 111.63. Overall: 189.60.

Tessa Virtue/Scott Moir have probably never been better. They're off to a shaky start quite literally when the music doesn't start at the right time, but that doesn't seem to unnerve them at all. Their rotational lift is the best of the season, in my opinion. They get 116.72 points. Overall: 197.22.

And this is how Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir win their first ever Grand Prix title, if you can believe it. Gabriella and Guillaume have to settle for the silver, while Maia and Alex finish on third.
