Skate Canada International 2018 - Pairs Final - The Glory of Victory

The current ranking of the pairs' event sees France on first place, China on second and Canada on third. While the results seem pretty solid at the moment, some of the pairs in the top five are known to sometimes struggle with consistency. If the same thing will happen here, we might see a different podium at the end of the competition.

Haven Denney & Brandon Frazier start the event. Unfortunately, they are still struggling with the quality of the jumps. Haven in particular has a tough time singling out of the side-by-side 3Salchows, putting a hand on the ice and doubling out of both combo jumps. Score: 114.91 -> 170.22.

Camille Ruest & Andrew Wolfe keep their smiles throughout the routine despite the mistakes. She falls on the throw 3Loop and 3Salchow, as well as double-foots the landing of the side-by-side 3Salchows. He singles out of the same 3Salchows. Score: 104.63 -> 162.16.

Ekaterina Alexandrovskaia & Harley Windsor's side-by-side jumps are also messy. For me, they're also missing the connection with each and with the audience. For music like Por Una Cabeza, that relationship between the partners needs to spit fire. Score: 106.18 -> 166.95.

Evelyn Walsh & Trennt Michaud skate to Romeo and Juliet. She falls on the side-by-side 3Salchows and puts a hand down on the throw 3Toeloop, but their Group3 lift is beautiful, with difficult positions and a two changes of direction. Score: 112.94 -> 172.53.

Anastasia Boikova & Dmitrii Kozlovskii are super thrilled with their performance, and for good reason. Technically, they are flawless, even managing to get a level 4 on the twist lift. Interpretation-wise, I think they still need to work more on facial expressions, but they have the art of presenting the elements already in their belt. Score: 131.97 -> 196.54.

Moore-Towers & Marinaro's forward inside death spiral

Kirsten Moore-Towers & Michael Marinaro make their home-crowd proud. Unlike an increasing number of skaters, they choose to put the twist lift at the very beginning of the routine, but he doesn't quite catch her right. That's the only mistake though. Score: 129.67 -> 200.93

There is one word for Cheng Peng & Yang Jin's programme: lovely. The only problem is she doubles out of the side-by-side 3Salchows, puts a hand down on the first 3Toeloop and singles out of the second 3Toeloop. Score: 129.08 -> 201.08.

Vanessa James & Morgan Cipres have already made a name for themselves as the pair that takes contemporary music and turns it into a masterpiece on ice. Wicked Game is definitely another routine to file under this category. Almost everything they do is perfection and difficulty wrapped together. No mistakes, nothing to criticise whatsoever. Score: 147.30 -> 221.81.

Finally, after so many years of hard work and being underrated, it looks like Vanessa & Morgan's season might be here. The Chinese Cheng & Yang stay on second place and the Canadians manage to secure the third. Inconsistency who? They all did a great job today.
