2014 World Championships - Dancers' Short Programme Highlights
Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitri Soloviev have had to withdraw due to an injury sustained by him. It's now up to Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat to prove that 'the experts' can hold their ground against younger skaters, such as Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte. Will they succeed? Find out:
Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani skate on music by Michael Buble and ace the twizzlers and the finnstep sequence. Their interpretation might not be spectacular, but they put on a great performance. Maia's blue dress is really beautiful! Their score: 63.55.
Watching Elena Ilinykh/Nikita Katsalapov skate amid serious rumours of a break-up is awkward. You can spot some tension in there and a few fake smiles, but what really stands out is that they're simply no longer in sync. Nikita messes up the twizzles, making Elena bump into him, which is really a shame because their twizzles are the fastest we've seen this season. Whether we can blame that on the break-up or just plain bad luck, remains to be seen. They get 65.57 points.
If anyone will do justice to Chicago, it's Nathalie Pechalat/Fabian Bourzat. Awesome costumes and cheeky presentation, but they lose their way a bit in the Finnstep sequence and he can't keep his balance in the twizzles. Their score: 68.20.
There's no business like show-business indeed! Madison Chock/Evan Bates stay focused and look sharp with some really good elements like the complex step sequence and a choreography that brings out the best of this dance style. They get 67.71 points.
Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte bring joy every time they skate. Fun, but grand, difficult, but made to look easy, their 42nd Street routine ticks all the boxes. They are great actors as well, which can only help sell the theme. Their score: 69.70.
Same theme, same blue colour, but a different style... Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje's version of 42nd Street looks more sophisticated, probably because everything they do is elegant and flawless. They get 69.20 points.
Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte take the lead, but Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje are literally a step behind, while Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian are struggling on the third place. Anything can happen in the final!
