Trophee de France 2016 - Falls and Singles (Pairs' Final)

The pairs' final does not predict a lot of changes for the competition, as Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot are set for the win, but Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov are only a point behind, so anything could happen.

It's a rough start of the competition as Miriam Ziegler/Severin Kiefer make mistake after mistake. They both fall on the side-by-side triple Lutz, then he over-rotates the triple Toeloop and steps out of the double Toeloop, she falls again on the throw triple Flip, they only manage a single twist, and the side-by-side spins are out of sync. Their score: 92.95. Overall: 145.01.

Vanessa James/Morgan Cipres make their home crowd proud. She lands the throw quad Salchow, but double-foots it; same mistake with the throw triple Flip, and the side-by-side spins are not in sync at the very end. Their first lift is innovative and their death spiral is incredibly low. Their music is a cover of Sound of Silence. They get 132.53 points. Overall: 198.58.

Marissa Castelli/Mervin Tran have a very enjoyable Journey Medley routine, but the mistakes just keep piling up - she falls on the side-by-side triple Toeloop, misses the second jump of the combination, and puts a hand down on the side-by-side triple Salchow, throw Flip and throw Salchow. Their score: 116.92. Overall: 176.18.

Natalia Zabjiako/Alexander Enbert might lose their bronze medal. He falls on the triple Toeloop and misses the rest of the combination, they both double out of the triple Salchow, and the side-by-side spins are out of sync. Their chosen song is Michael Buble's Cry Me a River. They get 121.20 points. Overall: 192.56.

Not even Aliona Savchenko/Bruno Massot manage to skate cleanly in Paris. He puts a hand down on the side-by-side triple Salchow, and singles out of the double Toeloop, while she falls on the throw triple Axel and triples out of the throw quad Salchow. The side-by-side spins are also not in sync. Their score: 133.04. Overall: 210.59.

Is it too big a request to ask Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov to take the chance they've just been given by the Germans' errors? Seems like it as she double-foots the side-by-side Salchow, doubles out of the triple Toeloop, singles out of the first double Toeloop and they both single out of the second triple Toeloop. Side-by-side spins also not in sync. They get 130.70 points. Overall: 206.94.

The Russians do indeed only manage to get the silver medal at the end of the competition, while Aliona and Bruno hold onto first place. The biggest news of this final though is that Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres have won the bronze medal. Congratulations to all of them.
