Trophee Eric Bompard 2014 - Pairs' Free Skate

It's time for the new Chinese pairs to make a name for themselves, or at least that's what the short programme results seem to imply. Wenjing Sui and Cong Han are very close to winning their second silver medal of the season, while Xuehan Wang and Lei Wang would also like another bronze-worthy performance after Cup of China. The gold is undoubtedly going to stay in the hands of Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov.

Failed death spirals are a rare sight in figure skating, but unluckily for Miriam Ziegler/Severin Kiefer, they add one to their luggage of technical mistakes today. The fault lies with her as she loses her edge. Their score: 88.91. Overall: 139.92.

Kirsten Moore-Towers/Michael Marinaro's costumes are fabulous, depicting disintegrating chessboards. Only one mistake here, his hand down on the side-by-side triple Salchows. They get 108.06 points. Overall: 159.13.

Nicole della Monica/Matteo Guarise have the same presentation problem as in the short. She is just better at it than him, but I can see potential here. Technically, he has some issues with the side-by-side triple Salchows. Their score: 107.79. Overall: 161.13.

Vanessa James/Morgan Cipres have been wrestling with technical inconsistency on their jumps lately, but today, they give us their best. The only technical issue they still have is the lack of unison on the side-by-side spins. They get 113.68 points. Overall: 167.88.

Alexa Scimeca/Chris Knierim's An American in Paris is glamorous not only because of the costumes, but also because of the way they approach it. You can feel the vibe of old Hollywood all around the ice rink. She double-foots the side-by-side triple Salchow. Their score: 120.28. Overall: 179.32.

From the same cinematic era, Xuehan Wang/Lei Wang bring us My Fair Lady. Theirs is a toned-down routine with some technical errors: she singles the side-by-side triple Toeloop and doubles out on the triple Salchow. They get 118.72 points. Overall: 181.97.

Wenjing Sui/Cong Han have the kind of chemistry Chinese pairs only get if they're married - it's progress. They skate on Pyotr I. Tchaikovski's Francesca da Rimini, which is infused with drama. This programme is at the opposite pole of their short, which shows versatility. I'm foreseeing good things for these two. Their score: 133.41. Overall: 200.68.

Every time Ksenia Stolbova/Fedor Klimov skate on Notre Dame du Paris, it is more and more beautiful. They will be a serious threat to all the other top teams this year, there's no doubt about that. He aces the role of Quasimodo, expressing all the hopeless love and pain that comes out of it. They get 138.61 points. Overall: 209.81.

Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov are officially qualified for the Grand Prix Final (not that you needed me to tell you that) after winning their second gold of the season here in Bordeaux. Wenjing Sui and Cong Han might also be going to Barcelona as this is their second silver medal. Finally, Xuehan Wang and Lei Wang climb the podium twice in as many events. Congratulations to all of them.
